We put people first

We established The Recruitment Consultancy in 1997, after becoming disillusioned by a saturated recruitment market, a market where mediocre customer service had become the industry standard and client satisfaction had taken a back seat.

We wanted to be different, so we challenged what appeared to be the general perception of the recruitment industry and we built our business around putting people first.

It’s not about targets

One of the key changes we made, was to release our consultants from the confines of sales targets so that they could focus their experience and expertise into delivering a first-class recruitment service, without the pressure of having to ‘hit numbers’.

It has, and is continuing to work very well as our consultants have the time and freedom to really create tailored recruitment solutions that are specific to each client….one size does not fit all.

It’s about getting it right

Additionally, we like to offer both clients and candidates a relaxed and friendly experience; this sets us apart from our peers. We’re an honest and genuine bunch and above all, we really enjoy what we do.

We are known for building long-lasting relationships and we pride ourselves on our track record for delivering exceptional service and, more importantly, results.

We want you to stay with us

Recruitment can be challenging at times, but we will work hard to make the whole process as painless as possible. So, if you are a business based in  Surrey,  Sussex or the surrounding areas, please feel free to chat with one of our consultants who will offer support, advice and solutions to best fit your recruitment needs.

With our experience and knowledge, we aim to leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding the right solution for every client and candidate.

Essentially, our team at The Recruitment Consultancy will help put the smile back on your face through our honest and down-to-earth approach.

What our clients and candidates say...

Meet the team

Annamarie Godward, Director

Annamarie Godward

I have worked in recruitment for many years and joined The Recruitment Consultancy 15 years ago as I wanted to work for a small, independent agency where I could make a difference and whose values and standards matched my own. I am a Director of the business and manage all operations in the Worthing office…

Wendy Hawthorn, Finance Manager

Emily Godward

After five enjoyable years of working in customer-focused roles, I decided to pursue a career in recruitment as it was something that I had always been really interested in. When an opportunity arose to join The Recruitment Consultancy, I jumped at it, and haven’t looked back since…

Karen Gilbert, Consultant

Karen Gilbert

I first moved into recruitment back in the late 90s and as soon as I sat at my desk I felt the drive and enthusiasm for the job, which I have always found so rewarding. I took some time out of recruiting to have my two children and have recently returned in a client support function for The Recruitment Consultancy…

Linda Brighty, Consultant

Linda Brighty

I was brought up and educated in Exeter before venturing to Sussex some years ago. My previous roles have been in a variety of sectors such as insurance, financial services, travel and most recently, recruitment, all very much around dealing with people. I believe my forte is my ability to communicate with people from all walks of life…

Kayleigh Docherty, Consultant

Lin Peter

After spending most of my career in the estate agency business, I joined The Recruitment Consultancy as I was looking for a change of direction. I have to say I love working here!  Every day is different, and you get to meet people from every kind of background. Working for an independent company…

Sharon Ellis, Director

Sharon Ellis

I joined The Recruitment Consultancy in 1997 as part of the start-up team and with over 25 years’ experience, I am now a fellow of the industry’s professional body (the REC).  As Managing Director, I am responsible for the business operations, however, I cannot resist being hands-on and still work as a recruiter in our Guildford team…

Tanya Sones, Consultant

Tanya Sones

I moved to Guildford, from London in the early 90s and decided to change my career, so I registered with an agency to try my hand at temping. This is when I ‘fell’ into recruitment.  The agency didn’t send me out to temp, but instead asked me to join them as a consultant and I loved it….twenty five years later and I’m still going strong!….

Wendy Hawthorn, Finance Manager

Wendy Hawthorn

I joined the company 13 years ago and I am now the Finance Manager. The accounts function plays a key part in delivering an excellent service to our clients. I take great pride in ensuring our temporaries are always paid accurately and on time. I am also responsible to the general office management and love being part of the team…

Our chosen charity

We proudly support Oakleaf Enterprise, a local mental health charity supporting people aged 16+ in Surrey since 1997. Addressing issues like social isolation, unemployment, wellbeing, and discrimination, Oakleaf actively supports hundreds of people managing mental ill-health at any one time. They provide a wide range of wellbeing activities and support groups, work-related training and employment guidance as well as a counselling service of up to 18 sessions.

Many Oakleaf clients experience social isolation due to their illnesses, often leaving their homes solely for Oakleaf activities. To combat isolation, Oakleaf offers diverse wellbeing activities, including yoga, football, Tai Chi, and confidence-building pursuits like art therapy, guitar lessons, and literacy/numeracy classes.

Oakleaf serves as the base for the Guildford Safe Haven, a 365-night alternative to A&E for those in or approaching a mental health crisis.
